The audience is college students who are graduating going out into the world seeking advice and a career.
WATCO decisions on your life
Enthymeme: Decisions change your life by altering the outcome in a positive or negative way.
The speech was given by Baz Lerman and written by Mary Schmich. Lerman mainly appeals to pathos or your emotion because he discusses very powerful issues pertaining to your life on a very individual basis. He does not seek to be an authority but still gives a great deal of non factual advice. Even though he is not an authority he still manages to appeal to ethos and create a sense of him being an expert. Lerman does not use logos as the advice he gives is not at all scientific or factual purely based on his life experience.
When looking at STAR it is very interesting. Lerman manages to give sufficient reasoning even though he is not an expert. One way he is able to do this is because when looking at the speech from the audiences perspective his advice is sufficient as he is older and therefore wiser as he as more life experience. Lerman is also respected as a famous and popular film writer. It is also very typical because the advice given is very easy to relate to and picture as being valid. When looking at relevancy, it is extremely relevant to these graduating college students as they will face many of these challenges in life.
The article is very effective and truly powerful this is mainly due to Baz Lerman and who and what he represents as a person. He is respected and revered among this age group.
